The Memphis Chapter is dedicated to the dreams and visions of our founder the Rev. James Cleveland to provide experience, opportunity and exposure to musicians, directors, singers, and songwriters aspiring to enhance and gain exposure for their music. We believe that dreams can come true through The Gospel Music Workshop of America.
The Memphis Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America was started and organized in 1969 by the late Decatur Williams. The meetings were held at the Vollintine Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. After Decatur’s passing the National GMWA Board appointed Delores Wade-Crawford as the next Chapter Representative heading the Memphis Chapter. Delores Wade has been the Chapter Representative since.
The Memphis Chapter meet for rehearsals the 2nd Monday of each month at the Greater Middle Baptist Church, 4982 Knight Arnold Rd where the Rev. Benjamin Hooks is the host pastor.
We welcome and encourage the "young" and "experienced" choir members, musicians, singers, songwriters and anyone involved in the Gospel music industry seeking to become a member.
